These are our personal stories, our reasons for Occupying Portland, Salem, Eugene, (and so on!) beginning in October. In peaceful solidarity with Occupy Wall St. Take a photograph of yourself holding a sign that describes your situation. You can show your face or not, your choice. Be creative! At the bottom of your sign, write occupyportland.org, occupyeugene.com, occupytogether.org, or Occupy [enter your city here]. Send your photo to oregon99percent@riseup.net. I will post photos daily.

We Are the 99%
I am a married mother of four. My husband is graduating college with over $30,000 in loans. We owe more on our van than it's worth to sell. We "own" a house with a $1650 mortgage. We are 31 years old. We are the 99%.
(P.S. Did I mention my husband is a disabled vet, my kids have to have the Oregon Health Plan, and I have no health insurance?)

I Am the 99%
I am 32 years old. I have a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. I went back to school for my master’s because I could only find work as an administrative assistant with my bachelor’s in English. When I graduated with my master’s in 2010, I accepted a job as a caregiver. In November 2010 I found a part-time job in my field, as a temp. I worked as a part-time temp for eight months before they hired me for a part-time job with benefits. I paid $300 per month for COBRA health insurance for a year before that happened. Today, I have four part-time jobs and $20,000 in student loan debt. I use the local food pantry because I am barely getting by.
I am the 99 percent.
